Description
Western Larch (Larix occidentalis):
- Grows in valleys and lower slopes of the Rocky Mountains, near the US and Canadian coasts.
- Used as a rot-resistant substitute for Siberian larch.
- Characteristics: high strength, hardness, straight grain, occasional reddish color, distinctive knot pattern.
- Suitable for outdoor applications without ground contact, and low maintenance.
- Stock available in Baltic Sea ports (Kiel, Lübeck), ready for delivery in various dimensions, largely FSC® or PEFC certified.
European Larch (Larix decidua):
- Locally produced in Germany.
- Advantages: quick drying, minimal shrinking, short transport distances.
- Customizable dimensions, produced on demand.
- Certified by PEFC or FSC®, ensuring sustainable sourcing.
Siberian Larch (Larix sibirica):
- Currently available in remaining stock at Kiel.
- Imports have been halted since sanctions in 2022.
- Interested parties can inquire about available qualities and dimensions.
Uses & Properties:
- Dense, slow-grown, narrow-grained, high durability.
- High density grants hardness and stability.
- Traditionally used for fences, facades, and decking, owing to its natural resistance and aesthetic appeal.
- The high heartwood content enhances durability and attractiveness.
